  Finally!  A restaurant and bar on James Island with hand-picked ingredients, local produce, smoked meats, and some "love" put into it's food and atmosphere!  The Charleston restaurant we are speaking of is Heart Woodfire Kitchen on James Island! 


Head Chef Glen Christiansen, formerly of FIG restaurant downtown, pulls from his bistroesque/European culinary background to blend simplicity and technique  with out all the fancy shmancy decorations and formality.

  At Heart Woodfire Kitchen on James Island, one will find in-house smoked meats (custom smoker from Italy), homemade sausages, flat breads, rotisserie items, original gourmet sandwiches, fresh local veggies, "speidies" (different skewers), and an ingenious adult beverage (wine,beer,house-made cocktails) list.


  The decor is that of a simple cafe/bistro with an adequate dining area and bar, seating roughly 70 folks.  They are open 7 days a week and only take walk ins.  Hours of operation are 11AM to 10PM. Brunch is served10PM - 3PM Saturday & Sunday.  Also on Sunday, it's Food & Beverage night!  There are some great deals!  Check it out for yourself or call ahead for details!


  Whether one is on their way to or from the beach, getting a drink with co-workers for happy hour, or just looking for neighborhood restaurant on James Island, Heart Woodfire Kitchen is the way to go!

James Island/"Day Of The Dead"/sportsbar/pool/tequila

  Pleasantly surprised when we pulled up (and kind of excited to see the joint), Cha Cha's a had a full lot with folks lined up outside, waiting to savor one of 100 varieties of tequila, Mexican food, and watch the NBA Playoffs (Heat VS. Celtics).

  There is an outdoor seating area in front of Cha Cha's (for smokers and folks looking to enjoy cocktails and dinner outdoors), a large copper-top bar seating around 30, a pool room with 6 or so cocktail tables, over 20 HDTV's and a red vintage booths parallel to one side of the bar.  Oh yeah!  I almost forgot,  the ceiling is lined with "choice" vinyl records!  Nice touch!

  Bartenders and wait staff were speedy, polite, attentive, and knowledgeable.  The tequila shots at Cha's Cha's on James Island, seemed to flow freely!  By the end of the night we were singing "Cha-Cha-Cha-Cha-Cha Cha's".  Lol.  We like tequila and had so many to choose from! Like kids in a candy store!

The decor was that of a vintage Mexican "day of the dead", celebration.  It all worked quite nicely together, we all agreed!

  Cha Cha's on James Island is great for happy hour drinks and apps, dinner with friends, on the way to or from Folly Beach or, for a just a "quickie". Movie Theater/Bar/Restaurant/Mount Pleasant, SC

It was date night, dinner and a movie seemed inevitable!  We were hungry and wanted to sit, relax, eat, and drink wine!  We decided on  Cinebarre in Mt. Pleasant , where we could enjoy all at once!


  Cinebarre in Mount Pleasant has such a cool set-up!  Its a restaurant, bar, and movie theater combined!  You walk in (after you purchase your ticket) to a very open atrium with a ample sized rectangular bar with leather seating and a few pool tables, and video games.  The dark tiled floor, stainless bar-top, and old movies posters give it a great look inside!  


  We took a seat at the bar (we had a few minutes to burn) and ordered a bottle of Malbec.  We talked about our hectic days for a second and then ordered the Barbarella Pie.  It's a pizza covered in mozzarella, vine ripened tomatoes, and fresh basil.  It came out very quickly, we couldn't have been happier with the speedy service and the pizza's arrival time.


  We sipped our Malbec and gave the pie a few seconds to cool (we have learned over time that if we dive right in, the roofs of our mouths will pay, lol).  The pizza was delicious and quite unexpected for "movie theater" food.  But, then again, this isn't your typical movie theater.  Check  Cinebarre  out  on your next movie night!

Craftsmen Kitchen and Tap House Charleston

Restaurant/Bar/Beer Garden/Downtown Charleston,SC

  A new Charleston restaurant and bar is in the works! "Craftsmen Kitchen & Tap House" is set to take over the old Johnson's Pub building, located at: 12 Cumberland Street, Charleston, SC 29401.  


  The complexity a fine handcrafted beer can bring to a fine meal is what Restaurateur Phillip Fisher (Social Wine Bar and Poogan's Porch) and Executive Chef Todd Garrigan (Tommy Condon's Amen Street) are after. Craftsmen's theme of hand-picked small-batch brews paired with fresh, seasonal, local ingredients is sure to be a hit!  By the way, remember the outdoor seating at Johnson's Pub?  It's now going to be a beer garden...can't wait to enjoy a "few" on a temperate Charleston evening!   "Craftsmen Kitchen & Tap House"  is set to open in a few months, we'll keep you updated!
